Z1X-Series ultra-portables are designed to provide business users with capabilities usually associated with full-sized notebooks. The high-end Z1XSP model has an additional feature that marks it out from the competition, namely its super-slim 9.5mm DVD-RW burner. This means users can now benefit from all the potential inherent in DVD-creation - but in a machine weighing just 2.1kg. Like all VAIO portables configured with a DVD burner, the Z1XP is also supplied with Sony\'s Click To DVD software, specially designed to make the DVD creation process as simple and as rapid as possible.
The Z1XSP incorporates Intel\'s Centrino technology, combining sophisticated power conservation techniques with exhaustively tested wireless networking facilities. The Centrino specification used for the Z1X-Series offers 802.11b/g communications, five times faster than the original 802.11b wireless standard. The second great advantage offered by 802.11b/g is its backward compatibility with the old 802.11b protocol. Essentially, users can be confident that the Z1X-Series will work seamlessly with existing 802.11b radio networks as well as with newer, high-speed 802.11b/g hardware. The wireless capabilities of the Z1X-Series also extend to fully integrated Bluetooth for data-sharing with devices like Sony-Ericsson mobile phones and Sony Clie handhelds.
The Z1X-Series models have SXGA+ high resolution screens, which also sets them apart from many other small-format portables. Other stand-out features include Memory Stick PRO slots and high-speed i.LINK (IEEE 1394 FireWire) ports for connecting to LCD projectors, digital cameras or camcorders, and scanners. In addition to integral security and high-speed transfer rates, Sony\'s Memory Stick PRO technology now allows up to 1GB of data at a time to be shared between compatible devices.
